«Лотос благого Закона» — самый влиятельный махаянский текст Восточной Азии, в переводе Керна для «Sacred Books of the East».
Контекст и история
Сложен на санскрите, вероятно, между I и III веками, а известен более всего по китайскому переводу Кумарадживы 406 года, который и сделал историю. Решающим его сделало положение о едином средстве передвижения: разные учения Будды суть не соперничающие доктрины, а средства, приноровленные к способности слушающего, и все ведут в одно место. Отсюда мысль об «искусных средствах» и знаменитые притчи — горящий дом, блудный сын, — которыми сутра это разъясняет. На этом тексте основаны школа Тяньтай в Китае и школы Тэндай и Нитирэн в Японии. Перевод Керна 1884 года передаёт санскрит, а не китайский: он читает иное предание, нежели то, что образовало Восточную Азию.
