一六一一年の欽定訳聖書。旧約と新約を収め、以後三世紀にわたって英語の標準本文となった版である。
背景と歴史
ジェームズ一世の命により、六つの部会に分かれた四十人ほどの訳者が仕上げた。ただし一から始めたわけではない。文章の多くはウィリアム・ティンダルに由来する。彼は聖書を英語に訳したかどで一五三六年に処刑された。これが翻訳であることは忘れずにおきたい。本文に関わる問いについては、原典はヘブライ語とギリシア語であり、確かめるべきはそちらである。
